Triple
90 class EMD locos from 1994, head up a typical Hunter Valley coal
train of 84 sets of NHRH aluminium hopper wagons.
|
The
other main class employed on coal runs are the 3000hp double cabbed 82
class EMDs. Here a pair approach Willow Tree with a coal train made up
of older wagons from Vickery. Upon arrival at the Tree, they will be
assisted up the Liverpool range by three 80 class bankers.
|
The
lower powered 48 class locos (900hp or so Alcos) are less common on
coal trains, except to Pelton. Here, four 48s head north to Stratford
on a train usually headed by two 82s.
|
The
same locos nearing Stratford with their empty coal train.
|
The
same locos depart Stratford with... their empty coal train. Ooops...the
mine is closed today lads.
|
Still
empty(!) the train heads back through Stroud Road.
|
Two
82s bring an empty train of hoppers up to the southern portal of the
Ardglen tunnel.
|
On
another day, a loaded train approaches the other portal after being
banked up from Willow Tree and crossing a grain train. If you are
Superman, you may just be able to make out the three bankers at the
rear of the train which have just been cut off.

Twin
90s with a smaller train (prob 72 wagons) pass through Branxton
