Day 3: The leaning Krauss 0-6-0 in the middle will be the photographic subject today, while we will be chasing from the Reşiţa. Dogs seem almost as common as trees in Romania

Apples and the Reşiţa at the compulsory shop stop where we all get out and support the local business.

Kids at the shop stop.

IMG_8112.jpg

Derelict house at the shop stop. Not surprisingly, the houses used to be all made of wood, but are now blocks, polystyrene board insulation and plaster, topped with bright red, orange and yellow free-market paints.

The Krauss in action

IMG_8140.jpg

There's one guy in our team not taking pictures, which is odd on these trips. David is here in the hope of getting a chance driving the steam trains - having done so in about 64 countries...

IMG_8142.jpg

Not the safest place to hide, puss

IMG_8147.jpg

Oooo! Horsecart catches DB by surprise

And again for good measure

IMG_8208.jpg

Moooo. No, that's not right

One last picture

IMG_8219.jpg

OK, maybe one more. Screwed this one up a bit. With trains you always expect you'll have more time to prepare...

In modeling lingo, this is called 0-5-0 shunting. Those of us onboard, offer our verbal support.

I just love workshops
IMG_8367.jpg
Tres beauties
IMG_8372.jpg
To continue our forestry lesson, after unloading from the trains by wire lifters, the logs are rolled...
IMG_8370.jpg
...by gravity and fellows using these things...
IMG_8377.jpg
...onto a chain conveyor belt
IMG_8404.jpg
They then run through a mill that chops the logs to standard lengths and then these fellows grab them...
IMG_8386.jpg
...and then they are ready for dispatch.
